Privacy Policy

Vocognix is a local-first dictation and voice-conversation app. Our privacy principle is simple: your audio and transcripts stay on your device unless you explicitly configure a service that sends them elsewhere.

What the app processes on your device

• Microphone audio: captured only while you actively dictate (hotkey / push-to-talk) or run a session you started. Speech is transcribed locally by speech-recognition models running on your PC. Audio is never sent to us. Vocognix has no server.
• System audio (“Capture system audio”): when you enable this option, Vocognix records what your PC plays (for example, the other side of a call) and transcribes it locally. It is off by default and entirely under your control. You are responsible for complying with local laws on recording audio (for example, consent requirements for recording conversations).
• Transcripts and history: dictation history, session transcripts and analytics are stored in a local database on your device. You can delete entries or your whole history at any time from the app.
• Session recordings: when “Keep session audio” is enabled, session audio is saved as local WAV files so you can re-transcribe (“refine”) them later. Deleting a session deletes its recordings.
• Typed text (“text injection”): this is the core feature. Vocognix types your transcribed words into the app you are using, via standard Windows input. It does not read or log your keyboard.

What leaves your device (only if you set it up)

• AI provider requests: if you configure an AI provider (e.g., OpenAI, or a local Ollama server), the text needed for that feature (your transcribed prompts, conversation context) is sent to that provider under their privacy policy, using your API key. If you use a local provider (Ollama), nothing leaves your machine. Vocognix never proxies or stores this traffic on any server of ours.
• Model downloads: speech models are downloaded from public hosting (e.g., huggingface.co and the Handy model CDN) when you choose to install them. These are ordinary HTTPS downloads; no personal data is sent beyond the standard web request.

API keys

API keys you enter are stored locally in your settings file, protected with Windows data protection (DPAPI) tied to your Windows user account. They are used only to call the provider you configured.

What we do NOT do

• No accounts, no sign-in, no telemetry, no analytics, no ads.
• No audio, transcripts, or usage data is collected by, or transmitted to, the Vocognix developer.
• No sale or sharing of personal data. We never have it in the first place.

This website

vocognix.com is a static page. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and collects no personal data. Your color-palette preference, if you change it, is stored only in your own browser.

Your control

• Every capture path (microphone, system audio, session retention) has an in-app switch.
• Windows lets you revoke microphone access at any time: Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone.
• Uninstalling the app removes it; your locally stored data can be deleted from within the app beforehand.
